The mirrors reflect reality at times and illusion at times I think. As coraline only sees herself in the mirror at times when she is alone. Which is reality. Or the mirror reflects illusion like when her other mother showed coraline that her parents were safe at home and did not care coraline was missing.. the mirror showed coraline that her real parents were trapped so she goes on a quest to rescue them. So I guess the mirror helped coraline in a way. I liked the story a lot..finished book last night
