QOTD #1: 10 Blind Dates

Published by Ashley on

Sophia’s family is filled with characters, big personalities, and a lot of interesting dynamics. Do you feel that the author captured what having a big extended family is really like? In what ways was it accurate or inaccurate?

I also have a big extended family on my dad’s side. So I think the author captured it well. There are always different issues and ideas in large family’s but normally everyone cares for eachother and there grandchildren and nices. In my experience large family’s help eachother. I don’t know about blind date help but I do love the book. I would have liked to here more about other characters but Sophie I really think is a good main character. Can’t wait to read more. I am on date number 5. The Jos pick. Should be interesting.

    Hi Katie!

That’s nice to hear that big families help each other out in different ways, even if it’s not setting people up on a series of blind dates. I would love a whole spin-off series of the other characters, too, just to see what happens next.

I don’t really have a big extended family. The family I do have is spread out around North America. We get together when we can but it’s hard. They are updated on our lives but I feel like if we were in the same town then the family would be more involved in the day to day, like Sophia’s family.

Though I think it also depends on the individual. In the book the ‘evil Jos’ weren’t as involved in the family as the other family members. Even family matters other than Sophia’s dates.

I also think it helps that they have a centre hub to meet aka Nonna’s House. I wonder if they will be as close or involved when Nonna is no longer around? Someone would have to take over being the centre hub. Nonna is the glue that holds them together.

    Hi Maggie!

That’s a really great point that Nonna’s house was the central hub. I know some families circle around their grandparents as the glue binding them together. Do you and your family have big reunions where you can get together and catch up?

We definitely do, they are just few and far between due to distance. Christmas 2018 was the first Christmas in my life we had my grandparents, and all three sets of kids, and their kids. We were only missing one kid, as they were in the navy. It was similar to the book as the grandkids just crashed anywhere the could find. Basically a pile on the floor. Haha.

Hi
Maggie has a point about the Nonnas house
My grandmother has always been the glue that keeps our family together. She unfortunately has memory loss now and altimers but keeps us all together as we help take care of her. My aunt, my dads sister has taken over as our family glue. In the book I wonder who would take over if Nonna goes. I wish this was a series too and I really like Olivia from the fab four. As I have a friend Olivia I have known since kindergarten as we are close like sophie and Olivia in the book. Although we have not seen eachother in a while as well.
