QOTD #4: The Lightning Thief
When Percy confront Hades in the Underworld, he learns that Hades doesn’t want to provoke a war with his brothers, claiming he is already overworked and underpaid. Through out the book, Hades was painted as the villain by gods and heroes along the way. What does this say about the opinions of the other characters, and how those opinions can influence others? Do you believe Hades’ explanations to Percy? Why or why not?

Don’t judge a book by its cover is a great reference to how other characters judged Hades. As Lord of the underworld he was thought to be a villain but he was also upset something was stolen from him. They eventually learned Hades was not the villain they thought he was. I thought Hades had been truthfull about being overworked ad someone has to decide what to do with all the people that die. I can’t say underpayed as I am not sure what the Lord of the dead should be payed but probably true as he was juged in an unfair way I think. Great book. I only have the last chapter to read and I will be happy to see new book club choices tomorrow

I agree! Hades has always been one of my favourite gods in Greek mythology, and I think he’s usually the easiest to tag as “the bad guy”. I’m glad Percy was able to learn the truth about the gods for himself, and make his own opinions.

I am glad Percy was able to make his own opinions too. I know what to read the other adventures of Percy too. I read heroes of Olympus but can’t remember reading this series yet. Sea of monsters will be a book I want to read as well. Can’t wait for tomorrow to see book club choice for the week
